Tower of Light Fantasy Code of Conduct
The Tower of Light Fantasy Forums is for people interested in science fiction and fantasy.
To preserve the general community and respect for individuals, here is a guide for members and staff alike:
I. Registration
Members may choose whatever usernames they wish; however, the staff may edit usernames when the username chosen is deemed inappropriate, such as under the following non-exclusive criteria:
a. Usernames that include adult, expletive, or other offending use of letters, words, or phrases
b. Usernames intended to imitate persons or staff
c. Usernames all in CAPITALS
Violations of 1 and 2 incur istant banning with no explanation. Usernames with all caps will be edited to lowercase.
II. Signatures
Members may include text and links within their signature area beneath postings, according to these guidelines:
a. Signatures may be no more than 4 lines in length
b. Signatures may not use size tags of more than 2
c. Signatures may include a maximum of 2 links
Additionally, links may not include commercial affiliate links, nor any form of commercial advertising.
Members are also advised against overuse of colors and formating - signature links are intended to compliment user postings, rather than distract from them.
III. Spam Policy
We do not tolerate spam postings here. If your first post is an advert for another website, or a product on another website, your post will be removed without warning.
If you post a similar post again, your posts will be removed and you will be banned from the forums.
SPAM INCLUDES NON-COMMERCIAL POSTINGS.
IV. Aspiring Writers
Aspiring writers are advised that links to their own websites are fine in their signature, but posts by new members that are entirely self-promotional will be treated as spam.
Note: Tower of Light will gladly promote the works of established members, but you must have at least 15 posts before using this privledge.
V. General Posting Policy
The administrators, moderators, and other staff reserve the right to edit, modify, or delete, in whole or part, any aspect of this forum, including user messages, at their own discretion and without notice or warning.
Especially when it concerns content of the following nature:
a. Any directly or deliberately disrespectful posts aimed at individual members of this community. This includes flaming, baiting, or personal abuse,
b. Posts that have excessive profanity.
c. Posts that have illegal material.
d. Posts with graphic imagery or literature of a sexual or violent nature. However, Tower Light plans to host a critique forum for adults only where some of this material may be acceptable, which will include its own set of rules (basically requesting that you not go overboard).
e. Posts that promote discrimination, hate, or violence either within or outside of the Tower of Light Fantasy forum.
f. Posts that attack the legal rights of any individual member, such as but not limited to defamation, harassment, and/or the issuing of threats.
g. Posts made by a member using multiple aliases.
h. SPAM: which in this instance is defined as memberships seen to primarily serve the purpose of promoting specific services, products, or websites. NOTE: self promotion should be kept to a minimum, and signature links are provided for, so long as they are kept respectful. Signature links may be edited and/or removed by the forum staff at any time and without warning.
i. Posts that disrupt the community in any way, including attacks against the Tower of Light Fantasy forums.
VI. Language
Please also note that swearing is not permitted - even in the aforementioned adult critiques. If swearing has any part in the literature or character development, please CENSOR the words using st*rs or bl_nks. If you don’t censor yourself, then the forum software and or the site staff may do this for you.
VII. Disciplinary Actions
This is merely a guideline, which the forum staff will use at their discretion.
If the staff believes that misunderstandings have occurred, the staff will make attempts to mediate peaceful solutions.
However, clear attempts to abuse the forums will be treated as such.
Members whho receive comments by staff in public postings, private messages, and e-mails should be taken seriously. Formal warnings will be given only as a last resort.
The staff does reserve the right to ban any member for violations, so keep this in mend when posting. Repeated violations will result in banning.
VIII. Additional Notes
a. Disagreeing with any member of staff will not necessarily result in censorship, as long as it is not generally disruptive. Diverse opinions are fine, but the staff must be respected and will have the final word on all subjects.
b. Please e-mail an administrator with complaints about a member of the forums staff .
c. Staff or the site administrator will attempt to resolve complaints about any post not covered above as decisively and impartially as possible.
Remember, the rules above are guidelines. Feel free to enjoy yourself at the Tower of Light Fantasy forums, but please rember to respect other members.
