It's unfortunate that I found out Resurrection by Steve Alten was the second book in a series after I bought it, but I read it anyway. It was quite different from what I'm used and that was refreshing. I like most of the sci-fi I've read in my life but it was nice to see something I haven't been exposed to before.

Resurrection (and its predecessor Domain - which I haven't read) uses the Mayan Popul Vuh myth as its starting point and then launches into one of the darkest, weirdest, and yet strangely delightful sci-fi adventures I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It's about two genetically enhanced twins whose destiny is to save the human race from a self-destructive time loop. Although I had to bear with the annoyance that I was reading the second book, I could not have been more pleased with the experience.
