Some of this information I posted in the Introduction section of this forum when I joined, but I thought I would recap it here again for those who are unfamiliar with me and my novel series.
I live in Columbia, SC, and have been a Wiccan for 11 years. I am a Green Witch/Faery Witch and went back to being a vegetarian 5 years ago and also gave up sugar and dairy. I am a gardener with 3 flower gardens in my yard and a container garden in my office window (large window with very wide sills) where I grow fresh spinach every day of the year. I have been involved in feral cat rescue for 30 years and currently have 6 housecats (all tamed ferals and abandoned strays) and a feral colony of 6 cats I care for. There were 21 cats in this colony over a year ago, but I slowly got them all spayed and neutered and have been finding homes for them. No surprise my Patron Goddess is Bast, the Egyptian cat goddess!
I am an award-winning novelist and poet and run a publishing company called Kittyfeather Press. Until this month my magickal urban fantasy novels, The Witchery Series, was published exclusively by Kittyfeather Press. Now it will be published by Trytium Publishing. The first novel will come out in Sept./Oct. 2007 and is called The Witches of Dixie: Book One of the Witchery Series. I will start another thread for info and news about this book, so I'll say more about it there.
Over a thousand of my short stories and poems have appeared in literary journals, magazines, and anthologies worldwide. I have been blessed to win many awards during my writing career, most recently The Muses Prize Best Poet of the Year. I am the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize nomination and seven Pushcart Award nominations, and the author of more than thirty-five novels and poetry books.
I have been married for 28 years and live in a house next to a state forest, which is where my feral colony lives.
Oh, this is funny! After I went back to being a vegetarian I was sitting on the sofa one day, and I suddenly realized all the leather purses I loved were the hides of dead animals. Don't ask me why this NEVER occurred to me before, but it didn't. But when it did it was as if I had been struck by lightning. So I boxed up all my leather purses and shipped them to women's shelters across the country and now never wear anything with leather on it, not even a small amount. It has opened up an entirely new fashion world for me (to say the least).
I write 365 days a year, and never seem to have writer's block. Maybe that is because I craft each chapter of a novel slowly, and that gives me time to figure out what comes next and to be excited about writing it. Like many writers, I also include bits and pieces from my own life in my novels (lots of cat, gardening, and Witch stuff), and there is always something happening in those areas to inspire me. That also means there is no end in sight for my novel series (grin)!
Thanks for cruising my forum, and I hope you have a great time with it. I would love to hear from you too!
