I started out in the writing business 19 years ago as a poet. Before that I had been a professional artist (a painter). I haven't painted for a long time (maybe 6 years now), but art prints of my paintings and poetry are still sold worldwide by my art print publisher in California, Haddad's Fine Arts, Inc. Now my paintings are used to illustrate the covers of my books.
I have been writing fiction for 11 years, and I'll never forget how that first short story came to me. Lines of poetry would often appear in my head just as I was falling asleep at night. So much so that I keep a pad of paper and a pen by my bed to capture those lines before falling asleep and forgetting them. One night several lines ran through my mind, and I grabbed the pen to jot them down. About halfway through I sat up in bed, because I was in shock. I realized this wasn't the beginning of a new poem. It was the first paragraph of a short story, and I had never written fiction before! From that night on I began writing fiction and studied everything I could on the subject, until I was able to craft short stories good enough to be accepted by magazines. Later I began to crave a longer form and started writing novellas and then novels.
The Witchery Series combines the best of my fiction from all those years, including those lines I jotted down in the dark that first night years ago. It is a series that evolved slowly and was published in various forms until it became the magickal urban fantasy novel series it is today. Each novel in this series weaves an entertaining story, as well as including useful information about feral cat rescue, how to shrink uterine fibroids naturally, herbal remedies, surviving perimenopause, and more. Each chapter also contains a spell, chant, or ritual that works.
It is important to me, as a Witch, that there should be novels in the marketplace portraying contemporary Pagans as we really are in everyday life. That means the characters in my novels face the same problems as anyone else (marriage difficulties, divorce, financial challenges, illness, self-esteem issues, etc). But because they are Witches, they use magick to solve their problems, making these novels great fun to read.
Trytium Publishing is combining the first 2 novellas and 2 novels from the Kittyfeather Press version of this series into one big novel titled The Witches of Dixie: Book One of the Witchery Series. The cover of this first novel will feature an abstract painting from my Goddess series of paintings. You may be wondering why I would use an abstract painting for the cover? Well, one of the main characters in this novel series is not only a Witch but also a successful abstract artist. In my life what goes around comes around!
I'll be posting more information in this thread about The Witchery Series as it develops.
