Playing God by Sarah Zettel is an interesting novel I picked up at a going out of business sale (along with a few other choice books).
*A bit of a SPOILER*
It takes place on an alien world ravaged by war that has struck a treaty to end the violence in conjunction with an Earth corporation, which has agreed to restore the world's viability in exchange for organic material. A greedy corporation, politics, and paranoia make life more complicated for the protagonists.
It's quite a good book and I enjoyed it very much.
